On April 4, 2004, The Appomattox Chapter United Daughters of the Confederacy held their annual Confederate
Memorial Day Commemoration service at the Appomattox Confederate Cemetery. Our guest speaker was Capt. Howard Gregory,
of the Virginia State Police, Appomattox, Virginia, the soloist was Mrs. Anne Minor Baker, of Richmond, VA. The Appomattox
County High School brass quartet provided the music. Mr. Cullen Williams made a very special presentation to the
South Carolina Soldier. Since this SC soldier could not go home, he brought home to him as he presented his grave with water
and soil from his home state. The guests and members presented each grave with a flag and a rose. The ceremony was concluded
with the volley and color guard presented by the Appomattox Rangers Court House SCV Camp #1733.
