The Appomattox Chapter United Daughters of
the Confederacy presented an Iron Cross to Pvt. Silas Whitehead Stinnett, of Company H, 19TH VA Infantry, Longstreet’s
Corp. in Pickett’s Division. The Ceremony took place on Saturday, May 13, 2006 at the Davis Cemetery, Shipman, Virginia.
Pvt. Stinnett is the ancestor of Laurie Goodman Lenz and Margaret Fulton Cook, members of the Appomattox UDC.
The Iron Cross is a permanent grave marker
presented to families of deceased soldiers of the Confederacy to honor their service in the War Between the States. Every
visitor to the grave will know that this Confederate hero was honored by the United Daughters of the Confederacy.
The Appomattox Chapter wishes to thank the
