Al Stone, portrayer of General Lee, speaker for the memorial service |
On Saturday, April 7, at 2 p.m. we sponsored the memorial service at the Confederate Cemetery
adjoining the Appomattox National Park. The service is an annual event that has been in existence since 1866. It is
in memory of deceased veterans of the War Between the States.
Al Stone,
portrayer of General Robert E. Lee, was our guest speaker. We also were honored to have Leslie Updike with Captain William
Latane Camp 1690, Sons of Confederate Veterans, Mechanicsville, Virginia, recite his poem "Tis' for You, Dear Sir". Appomattox
Rangers Court House Camp 1733, Campbell Guard Camp 2117, The Bedford Rifle Grays Camp 1475, and Garland Rhodes Camp 409 also
participated in the program.
