On Sunday April 11, 2010 The Appomattox Chapter 11 United Daughters of the Confederacy welcomed several hundred visitors to the little Confederate Cemetery located on Route 24 adjacent to the Surrender Grounds. Members and visitors honored the 19 soldiers (18 Confederate, 1 Union) buried in this cemetery in 1866. The program honored the soldier with songs, poems, flowers, flags, and great reverence. Present for the honor Guard were both Robert E. Lee and his Lieutenants and General Ulysses S. Grant and his Federal Generals Corp. The guest speaker was Mr. Wayne Ritchie, who portrays Matthew B. Brady the Photographer of the Civil War. Mr. Ritchie gave the audience a look at the life of  Mr. Brady before, during and after the war.

The United Daughters were represented by chapters from Bedford to Norfolk and the SCV camps were represented by members from Appomattox, Lynchburg, Nelson, Charlotte County, as well as reenactors from as far away as Wisconsin and Florida.

The Appomattox Children of the Confederacy Chapter 32, were well represented in period dress participating in many aspects of the program.
